Letter Checklist

Features of a letter	Text _______________________
Is the letter formal or informal?
Is the address in the top left hand corner of the page?
Does the date of the letter come underneath the address?
Does the letter start with Dear… or another type of greeting?
Is the reason for writing clearly given in the first paragraph?
Is there a clear beginning, middle and end?
Does it keep the reader interested -using well chosen words?
Has the letter been signed off correctly eg. Yours sincerely, yours faithfully etc.

‘How long is the cross country?’ asked the boy.

‘It’ll be five kilometres longer unless you shut your trap!’ threatened the teacher, holding up his midget gun ready to plummet a bullet into the sky and start the race.

Beneath the boy’s scrawny body and goosebump infected skin were flutters of monarchs, wriggling throughout his empty stomach.

‘Do you think I can make it?’ questioned the boy.

‘Don’t stoke my patience. Now finally we can make a start.’

Fairy Tale with a Twist

Most Fairy Tales or well known stories are told through the eyes of one person or end 'happily ever after'. Now it is your chance to change that. Take a popular story and put your twist on it. Did the Giant really die from falling or was he pushed by his wife? Why did Cinderella really leave her shoe behind - blisters? And was the wolf really the bad guy in 'The Three Little Pigs'? 100 WC Star of the Week!

The overpowering blare of sirens deafened my already exhausted ears. As I drove up to the mysterious object, I was overpowered by a familiar smell as it wafted into my flared nostrils. I got a closer look. I was stunned. I couldn't believe it. It was an egg. In fact it was a giant egg. I slid on my over sized police jacket and trudged along to the huge, cocoa sphere. I was greeted by some lackadaisical, emotionless colleagues. My eyes intensively studied the problematic egg. I was suddenly brought to an abrupt stop. Even words couldn’t explain what I saw.

News Report

Use these tips below to help you write a news report. You will be watching some of the fixture and then writing a piece for your blog or the class blog. Take an ipod with you, snap a picture - this will add interest for your story. Ask some questions and get some quotes - these can also be included. How are you going to plan? That is up to you. But remember I should be able to see evidence of planning. You might use a thinking map, a planner we have already used, or find a new one. It is up to you!

Once you have published your report and it is on your blog put a link to it in the comment section below. That makes it easier for us to enjoy your report without having to go searching for it. If not finished in class time - complete for homework.

Week #31 100 WC

We were just at home, doing nothing. Then we heard screams of terror, The ones that say…… We’re gonna die!  Me and dad jumped onto our feet, with him pushing me to the door, I dove, spun around and saw a pile of my house.

I later found out that he was badly injured. But it was strange, a Giant bee hit our house!

There were news reporters and crime scene investigators rushing in wearing protective gear. I asked one man, may I find out how a bee that size got here? No! He growled. But that didn't stop me!

Pre Writing

In class we are taking a close look at the 'Writing Process' and what we do at each stage. At the moment we are looking at the 'pre-writing' stage and what we do. Today we have had some good debate over the order of things we need to know before we can write. Do we need to know who the audience is before we write or do we need to know the purpose? Some interesting points of views were shared by several students and we still couldn't come to an agreement! But that is what makes learning fun, what works for one, might not work for another.

Next we are looking at planning - and different planning tools we can use to make drafting that much easier. Here is a link to a site you ALL need to bookmark as it has some fantastic interactive planners on, that when used correctly, will make drafting easy.
